Fictitious, literal, quotidian, narrative, objectual, dramatic, are the adjectives the best fit the work of Simon Zabell, since he opened the door of his Apartment (Palacio de los Condes de Gabia, Granada, 1999), an installation that (re)created one of those so many student flats that are abundant in Granada, via the contamination of the used media, of photographs that are as illusionist as a painting, as three dimensional as a sculpture, until he revealed the frictions of two crossed gazes in the dramatic serenity of his Bathroom Drama (Galería Alter Ego, Barcelona, 2001), an ambiance inspired by the encounter of Phaedra and Hyppolitus in Racine´s tragedy. In a word, Zabell’s work is scenographic. Zabell’s work is pure theatre and, as a result of which, essentially post-modern.
